Oral Hygiene Tips
Good oral hygiene should already be a part of your daily life; however if you are still struggling to get your teeth to gleam, then the following tips can help you to experience a healthier, whiter smile.
Brush
It is important that you brush your teeth as least twice a day - first thing in the morning and last thing at night. This will help to limit plaque build up and prevent bacteria in your mouth from producing acids which erode enamel.
Simply aim to use a tooth brush with a small head and soft bristles, and work your way around your mouth doing small, gentle strokes on each tooth. As you do this, it is important that you pay special attention to your gumline remembering to brush away at a 45 degree angle.
NOTE: brushing your teeth should take at least 2 minutes (top and bottom). In addition, you should ALWAYS brush your tongue at the end as a high percentage of bacteria will accumulate at the back of your tongue.
Floss
Whilst most dentists will advise you to always floss your teeth after brushing, many of us don’t take heed of their advice. Yet this could be a big mistake! Over 90% of dental problems arise from not cleaning the areas between your teeth properly, so the next time you brush, why not use some dental floss to reach between your teeth and remove any debris?
Rinse
As long you don’t use your mouthwash in excess, this simple solution can help to fight bacteria and reach into places which your tooth brush cannot. Try to rinse your mouth twice a day after you have brushed and flossed, and make sure that when you buy, you are buying the best.
Many mouthwashes for instance contain alcohol which not only stings if you have made your gums bleed, but can also dry your mouth leading to bad breath later in the day.
Because of this, aim to invest in a mouthwash that is alcohol-free and hasn’t been filled with lots of flavourings, but instead has been proven to fight bacteria which can cause bad breath and bacteria.
Visit your dentist
Easier said than done we know…
Due to our hectic work schedules, many of us find it hard to regularly go to our dentist; however it is important that you do. Not only can they give your teeth a special clean; they can also offer you personal advice on how to improve your cleaning and oral hygiene.
NOTE: On average you should only have to visit your dentist once, maybe twice a year.
Use a tooth whitener
Sometimes no matter how much you clean your teeth, yellow staining can appear on your teeth – usually triggered by the foods and drinks you consume. Tea, coffee and cigarettes for instance are renowned for staining teeth, so despite your best intentions these may be preventing you from having a beautiful white smile.
If this sounds like you, then incorporating a tooth whitening gel such as Smile 4 You into your routine can quickly help you to reduce the yellowing on your teeth.
